Hi, I’m Rebecca

I am a Senior Social Worker, registered with Social Work England.  I am qualified with an MSc in Social Work, a Foundation certificate in Counselling and Psychotherapy skills, and recent accreditation in Reflective Practice Supervision from The Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust.

It has been a privilege to work for over 20 years directly with young people who face additional challenges in life.  This has been an opportunity to learn about their stories, their choices, aspirations, barriers and needs.

I am passionate about advocating for young people, getting their voices heard, promoting resilience, and supporting them to reach their full potential. In 2013 I was awarded the Residents Choice Award (Ealing Council) for going the extra mile to support young people.

I have predominantly worked in the field of Youth Justice, managing a caseload of young people subject to statutory Court Orders.  In addition, I have taken lead roles in safeguarding, conducted research into the needs of young Black males in the Criminal Justice System and facilitated training and workshops on youth justice and neglect.

I have supervised student Social Workers, and, as a tutor and assessor, supported practitioners in developing academic writing, critical reflection, relating theory-to-practice, and analytical skills. I have also worked with older adults with complex mental health needs.

I have recently facilitated group and individual reflective practice sessions for managers as well as those working directly with service users at the YMCA across East and West Sussex.  I now manage the Reflective Practice of Social Workers, Senior Practitioners and Team Leaders at Young Lives vs Cancer.

My approach is warm, authentic, empathetic, and non-judgmental, aimed at supporting staff to excel in their demanding roles.  I create a safe space where individuals are encouraged to reflect on feelings, acknowledge personal and professional barriers, consider other perspectives and ideas to overcome challenges, enabling them to provide the best support to young people.

I am passionate about promoting anti-oppressive and anti-racist practice. For me, this is an ongoing lifelong journey of self-reflection, acknowledging privilege and bias, as well as advocating for equality and challenging discrimination.
